Don't follow the crowd

Tonight as I walked from the Northern part of campus toward the Southern, I noticed what seemed to be a lot of people heading North. I thought they must be about to attend something cool and, instead of asking them where they were going, I followed them. Most of them dispersed and went toward the freshman dorms.

Never follow the crowd without asking them where they're headed.

I often stand in lines whithout knowing what they are for. My thoughts usually are similar to this: "With how long this line is and how fast it seems to be growing, I can't possibly afford to spend the time figuring out what this line is for. However, if all these people want whatever it is, odds are I do to." Usually it works because people line up largely for two reasons, to get something they want which is often in low supply and high demand (see lines for free food at BYUSA events) or to escape severe consequences which would be incurred by the absence obtaining what lies at the end of the line(see Y-permit lines).
